JOB DESCRIPTION

The City Wine shop is offering an exciting career opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced wine retail assistant or sommelier to join our wine team. This is a perfect role for someone who loves wine, is approachable, friendly and looking to be mentored in developing your palate and wine knowledge.  

Ideally you will have 2-3 years of experience in a fast paced wine retail and/or wine bar environment or you are a sommelier looking at moving from a more formal restaurant environment. 

  • Hands-on role
  • Advising retail and dine in customers on wine, spirit & beer selections 
  • Merchandising and stocking the wine wall and display fridges
  • High level of customer interaction of selling and serving guests in the venue by pouring wine and serving food as required
  • Support the retail sales manager & principle wine buyer
  • Fulfill customer retail orders
  • Work with the cellar team on receiving, storage & allocation of stock
  • Assist in briefing staff on wine products & list changes
  • Co-ordinate deliveries & booking couriers
  • Attend supplier tastings and trade tastings

RECOMMENDED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Sommelier
Bar Supervisor

Please note: You should have a minimum up to 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a passion and appreciation for food & wine
  • Have an eye for detail and enjoy doing things the right way
  • An ongoing commitment to improving your skills and product knowledge
  • Enjoy and thrive working in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with our customers and work colleagues 
  • Hold a WSET 3 certification or Court of Master Sommeliers Certified level which is preferred but not essential 
  • Experience with working with a POS and Inventory system and also MS Office Suite
  • Have a strong work ethic with a get up and go attitude
  • Able to work flexible hours including one weekend day
