Functions & Event Coordinator

Start: ASAP Where: Bulimba, QLD Type: Full time Pay: $50,000 – $60,000

JOB DESCRIPTION

Have you worked in the events management industry for a while but you’ve got a real passion for community building?

Do your friends all tell you how insanely organised and amazingly creative you are?

Would you love to be able to come up with ideas for events you could run (like a mini food & wine festival) as well as plan other people’s events?

Then this job might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

About You

Whether you’ve worked in hotels or for an events management company, or maybe even done your own thing in events, you’ve got plenty of experience.

You could do some parts of your job in your sleep, so you don’t just want another box-ticking wedding planner type role, you want variety and creative license.

Coming up with creative ideas for incredible events lights you up because you love the look on people’s faces when they’re making memories.

Community is important to you, maybe your family is really close or you grew up being part of a close-knit sports, church or cultural community so you know how powerful it is to belong.

You’re looking for a new job now because you’re just not having fun where you are, you might be bored, or maybe overworked, or maybe you’re just being taken for granted. You could be doing your own thing but you’re done with wearing 17 hats and you’d love to have the variety and control but without being all things to all people.

Others describe you as friendly, detail oriented and positive.

About Us

The Bulimba Golf Club is NOT your average Golf Club.

If you don’t already know us here’s the main reason we’re different 👉Where most golf clubs are all about excluding people we are the exact opposite!

Yes we have a 9-hole Golf Course here as well as a small practice area. And of course alongside that we have a bar and restaurant.

🌟But our secret sauce is that we’re really a community club.

A place where people come to have a drink and catch up with friends, to have a team lunch or 50th birthday party, to play golf with the kids or to watch the game. We’ve got live bands, trivia nights, a pool table, darts and so much more.

Most of our members are local families and our events range from 1st birthday parties for 25 to corporate golf days for 520. Part of our big vision is resurrecting the Bulimba Festival which would need to cater to almost 5000!

🏆Having just been awarded the prestigious title of Golf Club of the Year (under 400 members) for 2023 at the recent QLD Golf Industry Awards we’re pretty proud of what we’ve achieved in the last 12 months!

But as the GM, I know I can’t do this all on my own.

You’ve got way better ideas for all things ‘Events’ than I have.

So come and join me and the rest of the team and be a part of helping us win the next award (and let’s have some fun while we do it).

About the Role

We have a lovely Function & Events Manager who currently plans and runs our big corporate and seasonal events. We're now looking for a proactive Events Coordinator who can support our Manager and run the smaller events.

Because we’re so community focused there’s almost a blank canvas for you to come in and create any event you can imagine!

The best thing about this club is that we have such strong community interest and so many great local artists, food & beverage producers and entertainers we can bring in to create fantastic events.

In a nutshell you’ll be responsible for everything that needs to happen to keep the Functions & events side of things running smoothly.

You’ll be supported by the Functions Manager and of course have the GM in your corner.

You’ll need to work very closely with our Bar Manager as we run a lot of functions and many of them will need some creative approaches to making sure everybody can get drinks throughout.

Something else I’d love you to be excited about is creating video content for our Social Media Coordinator (and or posting it to your own Insta profile and tagging us).

You’ll be working a standard full-time week and wherever possible we aim to make your shifts no longer than 8 hours each. A lot of your work can be done before the events but as you know for some of these you’ll need to be on site to make sure everything runs smoothly.

WIFM

Events Management can be a tough gig and in many places you can feel quite alone and like it’s all on you.

That won’t be the case here though. We’re a great team and most of the time we’re pretty relaxed at work.

While we take our work seriously we don’t take ourselves seriously.

Working here will suit you perfectly if you enjoy planning a wide variety of events and are comfortable working with all kinds of different people, from PCO’s to Mum’s and everyone in between.

I will give you control of managing the Events part of the business without micromanaging you.

If you want to use this role as a chance to start building your own personal brand online I’d fully support that because I’m all about making sure this job is a win-win opportunity and not just another thankless events management job.

We’ve got a pretty relaxed atmosphere here most of the time and get to do work that makes people really happy

Yes, it can get really busy and a bit stressful when we have a lot of events on one weekend but we have a great team who pull together.

No two weeks are the same here, so you definitely won’t get bored.

You’ll be on an hourly rate contract for 38 hours per week + overtime based on the Registered and Licensed Clubs Award (MA000058).

Who it this role NOT for

This role isn’t for you if

  • You’ve had enough of events, and just don’t love what you do anymore
  • You’ve never actually managed events before
  • You want to sit in an office rather than be hands-on
