Commis Chef – East Village Hotel (Balmain)

East Village Hotel (affectionately known as "The EVH") is a cozy and vibrant gastro pub nestled in the heart of East Balmain. Known for our classic dishes, daily specials, and warm community atmosphere, we are proudly pokie-free, dog-friendly, and the last remaining hotel in East Balmain. Located just 100m from the East Balmain Ferry, we are conveniently one ferry ride away from Barangaroo.

We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Commis Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team.

About the Role

As a Commis Chef, you will play a key role in supporting the kitchen team to deliver high-quality, consistent dishes. Your responsibilities will include preparing entrees, sauces, and sides while maintaining strict hygiene and health standards. Success in this role is measured by your ability to ensure exceptional food quality and presentation, every time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Sous Chef with daily food preparation tasks.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely use of ingredients to reduce waste.
  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes in line with the kitchen’s high standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of your workstation.
  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations.

Job Details

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Salary: $60,000 per year

REQUIREMENTS

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar role (preferred).
  • Culinary training or apprenticeship certification (desirable but not essential).
  • Proven ability to maintain high-quality standards in food preparation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
