JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for reliable and motivated Chef to join our team with a background showing previous culinary experience and shift supervision, with exposure to bulk cooking and special diets.

As a Chef you will be responsible for the preparation, presentation and serving of preselected dishes. As a Level 5 Cook under the Hospitality Award you will also supervise and train kitchen staff on your shift and ensure the work area and equipment is well maintained. 

Your well developed skills in customer service will ensure you adequatley fulfill the role of being the main contact point for clients when on a kitchen shift (outside of office hours).

You need to hold a "blue card", which is a current Qld Govt Working With Children (WWC) Check, before commencement.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will be performing general and specialised cooking, (butchering - limited), baking and pastry cooking.
  • Suitably qualified and experienced applicants will also supervise and train other kitchen employees.
  • You will also be a flexible and helpful team player by contributing to the broader team and undertaking other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and your capabilities.
  • All of our staff assist our customers with their requests whether large or small with a smile and a genuine helping hand.
  • Ongoing availability over a changing seven-day roster is required.
  • Ability to work and contribute as part of a close knit team who are focused on providing the very best guest experience possible whilst they enjoy what they do.
  • Service: personable with a commitment to building strong, functional and supportive relationships with key stakeholders across our organisation and the clients of Alexandra Park Conference Centre.

Qualifications & experience

  • Bulk cooking experience is highly desirable as we are a group stay accommodation and a conference centre.
  • Trade qualification as demi chef with 3 plus years as a Cook grade 4.
  • Experience supervising and training other cooks and kitchen employees.
  • Holding a current Suitability Card for Child Related Employment (Blue Card) is required before commencement.
  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen environment with bulk cooking experience is required. Familiarity with computerised menu systems, food ordering practices, stock control and food safety systems will be highly regarded.

Please note: You should have a minimum 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 years experience in a similar position
  • Qulaifications in Commercial Cookery or hospitality as a Chef/ Cook
  • Possess a strong work ethic and have excellent communication skills
  • Can produce consistent quality
  • Have a positive and ‘can do’ helpful and caring attitude
  • Have a keen eye with high attention to detail
  • Would like to assist with menu planning and suggestions
  • Enjoy the benefits of expanding your experience and knowledge
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Desire to earn up to $38 per hour on certain shifts
