JOB DESCRIPTION

Merlo Coffee began 30 years ago with a simple philosophy – freshly roasted specialty coffee served by people who are passionate about coffee. 

Today, Merlo is proud to be one of Australia’s leading independently owned and operated coffee roasters, who supply the public, our own Merlo Coffee stores and 1,700 cafes and restaurants with freshly roasted coffee around the country every day.

About the role

Assisting in creating a culture of accountability and integrity, the Second in Charge (2IC) is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in the store’s operational efficiency and its employees. With the tools and resources to exceed set goals, you will focus on quality coffee and customer experience, you will strive to exceed expectations and go above and beyond to ensure the customer receives the best of what Merlo Coffee has to offer. 

We are currently seeking to fill 2IC positions at our George St store.
 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Customer experience – provide and ensure customers are given exceptional customer service.
  • Coffee production – prepare a variety of coffee and beverages according to Merlo standards.
  • Team management & succession planning – Effectively communicate with all staff to ensure they align with the store and Merlo Coffee’s goals. Coach and mentor staff to consistently exceed expectations in their role.
  • Financial management – Ensure the store reaches its short- and long-term goals and budgets. 
  • Store management – Ensure the store is held to a high level of cleanliness and all food and workplace safety procedures are followed including stock and quality control.

REQUIREMENTS

About you
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Full-Time availability across Monday – Friday (Closed on weekends)
  • A proven aptitude and experience in staff management.
  • Strong passion for coffee and commitment to the success of Merlo. 
  • High volume coffee making experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach and develop staff. 
  • A keen interest in long term career progression within the business.
  • A fun, hardworking and energetic attitude towards work. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
