The Bavarian arrives in Charlestown with 500 free hotdog bonanza
Mar 12, 2019
The Bavarian will open its doors at Charlestown Square shopping centre, on the outskirts of Newcastle in the Lake Macquarie region, on Wednesday, 13 March 2019, with 500 free hotdogs distributed from 11am.
Located in the South Piazza dining precinct on the first level of the shopping centre, The Bavarian Charlestown boasts 330 seats, including outdoor seating for 100 guests.
Local residents, shoppers and entertainment seekers will experience a true taste of Bavarian hospitality, from cultural hints in the interior décor, to quintessential dishes and a range of international and local beers.
The family-friendly menu offers something for everyone, including traditional Bavarian favourites, such as crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, a range of classic German and gourmet sausages and shared platters. Lighter bites include chicken wings, spicy squid and build-your-own salads from a checklist of fresh ingredients.
Loaded schnitzels are generously smothered, covered and loaded with toppings creating quirky fusions of some of the world’s favourite dishes. Schnitzel stardom awaits those who finish The Schnitzelmeister ($80) – a 1kg, six-stack, chicken schnitzel tower topped with Napoli sauce, ham and cheese and served with four sides – in under one hour.
Shopping excursions will be bolstered by a range of daily food and drink deals. A $15 lunch special combines a schnitzel and beer from Monday to Friday between 11am and 4pm. Dinner specials start at 5pm with a chicken burger and drink of choice ($15) every Monday, a two-for-one deal on regular schnitzels on Tuesdays and refillable All You Can Meat platters ($35 per person) every Wednesday. On Sunday the focus is on families, with children under the age of 12 eating for free from the kids’ menu with a paying adult.
Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 7pm every day with $5 beer, wine and spirits and $1 chicken wings.
The menu is complemented by 17 beers on tap, including imported Bavarian favourites Lowenbrau, Franziskaner, Stiegl and Hofbrau. An iconic range of Australian and international craft brews join the line-up of German beers, including 4 Pines and Pirate Life (AUS), Goose Island, Budweiser (USA) and Stella Artois (EUR).

Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said he was thrilled to be expanding the Group’s NSW footprint and bringing The Bavarian to Charlestown Square shopping centre.
“Our Bavarian restaurants have a large and loyal following in NSW and we’re thrilled to be bringing our first daily deal packed destination to one of the region’s largest shopping centres,” Mr Pash said.

The Bavarian Charlestown is a contemporary, casual restaurant with design features that reflect its Bavarian heritage, including stone walls, alpine finishes and large, communal wood tables.
Signature features include a custom-designed vintage beer barrel wall, bespoke signage and an impressive beer stein chandelier holding over 500 1-litre glass steins suspended above the bar.
Green plants, hanging baskets and ivy garlands adorn the interior, adding a splash of colour and fresh feel, while dark, aluminium planter boxes and bare brick walls add an urban edge.
A picturesque, outdoor beer garden is divided into two sections – a larger space seating up to 60 guests and a smaller area with 40 seats. Each features a mix of seating for large and small groups, including long, communal and high, beer barrel tables. Vines and fairy lights are strung from large semi-permanent umbrellas, creating an inviting space to host functions and parties of different sizes.
Several large-screen TVs throughout the venue offer an exciting schedule of live sports games.
