Brisbane’s The Royal to Undergo $1.1 Million Refurbishment & Name Change
May 02, 2023
Northern suburbs pub The Royal is getting a $1.1m revamp to revitalise the historic venue for the modern Nundah community, set to open mid-July this year. As part of the transformation by Australian Venue Co (AVC), The Royal will also get a name change, returning to its original name – Royal Hotel.
Constructed in 1888, the heritage-listed pub shares the same original architect as Crown Hotel in Lutwyche, which has also recently been renovated by AVC. The renovation at The Royal will be led by architect Mel Porter Design, and is due to commence in late April.
The first floor will be transformed into a new entertainment space, hosting live bands & comedy nights, with capacity for 200 patrons. The space will also be available for private event hire.
The refreshed bistro & terrace will be an inviting, family-friendly dining space for up to 120 patrons. The light-filled area will boast marble-look tables, checkerboard floors and wooden accents, with added pops of greenery brightening up the overall interior look.
Along with the bistro’s interior refresh comes a new menu which will offer elevated pub classics and fresh, seasonal dishes that will cater to a range of dietary preferences. The new menu will be perfect for families looking to treat themselves to a delicious meal midweek with the little ones, with plenty of variety on offer.
Locals looking for the perfect meeting spot to catch a game with friends, have a casual midweek drink or simply sit in for a long weekend session will love the refurbished front bar and alfresco area. With multiple TV screens and enough room to host 80 avid sports fans, this is the ideal destination for everyone to watch major sporting events live and loud.
“As an historic Nundah institution, we are focussed on staying true to the pub’s unique heritage throughout the renovations. We have worked closely with the architects to ensure that, like with Crown Hotel, we are creating a modern pub that residents and families are proud to call their local….The Royal Hotel is a very exciting project, creating more entertainment and social space for people to enjoy throughout the year…This renovation is part of a huge program of investments into pubs in Brisbane and throughout Queensland and we can’t wait for it to be fully revealed later this year.”
- Craig Ellison, AVCs Chief Operating Officer
The pub will remain open during the works with areas of the pub staged to close temporarily for renovations:
Bistro: 26th April - 19th May
Sports Bar: 22nd May - 9th June
Gaming Room: 11th June - 16th June
Upstairs Entertainment Room: 19th June - 14th July
Evidently the Nundah community is in for a real treat with the Royal Hotel's $1.1 million facelift. With a new name, a refreshed bistro, and a brand new entertainment space, this historic pub is set to become the new hotspot for locals looking for a great night out. And let's not forget about the new menu, offering elevated pub classics and fresh, seasonal dishes - perfect for families and foodies alike. So mark your calendars for mid-July and get ready to experience the new and improved Royal Hotel. We’ll see you there 😉.
